Garmin Brief Historyhttps://web.archive.org/web/20141124062212if_/http://www.bestgamefishing.com/garmin-echo-series.html

Looking at the cost of their first GPS unit which was around $2,500 makes me aware of how far this two entrepreneurs have come from. And the origin of their  company name “Garmin” which is a combination of the first-names of their names adds more creativity ingredient to their business style.

Garmin’s main niche as a starting point was a Handheld GPS receiver which was to target military personnel by selling these products to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia during the 1991 Gulf war. This was one of the company’s building pillars. Garmin was able to ship as many products to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

This catapulted their strength in-terms of their scope of market and help build their capital to target other different related GPS products. By the year 2000, Garmin had already sold 3 million GPS devices and was also producing over 50 different models to over 100 countries and more than 2,500 distributors. OK !! enough of history :)

So what made Garmin an international best seller in GPS and fishfinder systems selling millions of products? :) Read On.

They then launched the 60c line handheld GPS mapping receivers which featured increased sensitivity and storage capacity with battery life up to 30 hours power strength. Other previous products launched were the 2003 iQue PDA receivers, the 1998 Automotive GPS streetPilot which was announced at the Consumer Electronic Show, the streetPilot was upgraded in 2002 to streetPilot III and in 2005 to the streetPilot I-series.

Garmin also released in 2005 the nuvi 300 series which was their first modern shaped. Then in 2006 they started shipping the nuvi 660 pocket size widescreen which added Bluetooth,FM transmitter with brightness feature and screen size.
In 2010 they then released the 2000′s series like the 2200 a 3.5 inches display,2300 a 4.3 inch display.

In 2012 Garmin released the nuvi lineup which includes new features from models like nuvi 30,40 or 50 series and the advanced models like the nuvi 2405,nuvi 2505 and the prestige series nuvi 3400 and 3500 series.

Looking from the perspectives most of the Garmin products till 2014, Garmin seems to be making huge sales with the Garmin echo 500 fishfinder. From my own investigations, it appears this the main contributing factor to this huge sales is the price cost effective price and the top reviews and ratings from most users and consumers. Good luck buying one.
